SOFT TISSUE THERAPY
What is soft tissue therapy?
There are many different styles of soft tissue therapy. Trigger point therapy is the most common and involves finding the tender spots in your muscles and working on those areas until they relax. Another method of soft tissue therapy is soft tissue adhesion treatment. Adhesions are collections of dense scar tissue that bind together, reducing flexibility and compressing nerves, which can cause pain that is often described as ‘a pinched nerve’. They often stem from old injuries that didn't heal properly or were not treated correctly. If the muscles around your spine are very tight, the joints will be more difficult to move.
Why have soft tissue therapy?
The chiropractor can perform soft tissue therapy before your adjustment to make it more comfortable and effective. This will facilitate a more effective and comfortable adjustment. As soon as the spine is moving correctly, the muscles relax and soft tissue therapy may not be required. This is more common if it is a new problem or you haven't had a problem for a long time.
Does soft tissue therapy hurt?
It depends on the problem. Soft tissue therapy can feel nice and relaxing, however if a muscle is very tight and inflamed, the treatment may be slightly uncomfortable. The chiropractor will always let you know what they are doing and will ask you if the pressure is too hard.
What if my condition is more muscular than skeletal?
Some conditions may not directly involve your spine, for example tennis elbow. In this case your treatment will involve more soft tissue work as we always want to treat in the most effective way to get you pain free.
